Mom's B-Day

Incredible. I don't think it could have gone better. There were so many things that could have gone wrong...and for once they didn't.

Mom called us four times this morning to tell us she felt like "Queen for a day." Between Brian and her granddaughters flying down for two days just to see her (!) to the landscaping in the backyard and the ceilings being fixed, to the lovely friends who came to say hello, including two who flew in from Nocal for the day...She's reinvigorated and as excited as a kid. Talking about kicking ass at physical therapy and lowering her steroids again. It was just the mental/emotional stimulation she needed.

Nurse Sis declares it a smashing success.

Lynne, thanks. Mom's pretty tickled, and we're so happy to have her spirits high again. How is your family?

kid sis --

All in all, quite good...

except for the part when my sister-in-law's boyfriend disregarded the request of CC's father and CC herself to not engage one of our good friends -- who happens to be Aurora's godfather and a Republican -- in a political discussion...

and said sister-in-law derided godfather's girlfriend to her face as a "good little Republican girlfriend" when she offered to get some food for the godfather...

and the political discussion between the boyfriend and the godfather grew loud enough to draw the attention of others at the party, who described it as "heated"...

and when I tried to casually and flippantly break up the political discussion between sister-in-law's boyfriend and godfather and bring them back to the rest of the party, sister-in-law's boyfriend proceeded to point at the godfather and forcefully call him and all Republicans "murdering liars"...

and I had to warn the boyfriend to knock it off or I would ask him to leave...

and when, at the end of the party, I went to apologize to sister-in-law's boyfriend in case I embarrassed him, he repeated the "murdering liars" comment...

and when I explained to him that he was insulting our daughter's godfather, this boyfriend rolled his eyes and said "I'm sure he's a competnet lawyer, but...", thereby questioning and insulting our competency as parents in choosing our daughter's godparents...

and CC and I together did not get the full picture (the repeated requests to sister-in-law and boyfriend, the insult to godfather AND his girlfriend, the rolling of eyes by the boyfriend, etc.) until AFTER the party...

and CC's father's birthday dinner was the next day, with all in attendance, and all but CC's parents aware of what went down the day before...

and CC ticked off and fuming ever since...

Yep, it actually WAS great. My kids had fun, the vast majority of our close family and friends were there to show love for our baby girl, the food was good, the day was warm -- for the most part, pretty darn great. ;-)

Sorry to vent. Will keep it in check next time.

Big bro recommended this review to me, and I have to pass it on:

AK, it was such a relief! But sorry I had to miss the Sunday event.

MIM, wow. I wrote you about this on your personal email.

Moses, Here's hoping she's the Energizer Bunny!

I am SO sorry for venting my virtual spleen in YOUR blog. That was very rude of me. Please feel free to delete all the unnecessary parts.

Again, my sincerest apologies to you and your regular readers, and my happiest congratulations on pulling off Mission: Exhaustible!!! :)

Wait a minute -- how did those links end up in my message??? I didn't put them there.

What links? I don't see any...And no worries about the venting. Sheesh, I've only ever deleted one person, and it was after he ignored my demand to change the subject...And for the record, I only deleted his comments AFTER the request...that's why the posts he removed say "Author Deleted." Really, y'all don't need to be paranoid. MIM, email me your work address and I'll send it to you there. I cced it to the old work, and it bounced.
