Update

Matheson is alive! Praise Jesus!

No actually, my earlier intel was just faulty. Apologies.

Book was great. Nice prose. Cool insights. Loved his grasp on emotions, and the stages of being alone. Loved the honesty of raging desire turning to blah abstinence. Been there! Totally ahead of its time. And Lost has cribbed from it, which makes sense given it heavily influenced Steven King.

Really interesting IDEAS, none of which made it into the movie except for one: that after years of solitude, Robert forgot how to be social with other humans. Brilliantly executed, and made all the better for the other human being an attractive woman. Geez, I was almost rooting for him to rape her. Or the dog. Or the mural.

All in all, the novella would make a great movie.

Cue Joker-esque laughter of Hollywood madness echoing through the labyrinth of Development Hell.

Why so sad, Writer?

I used to be obsessed with the word(s) grand guignol.

Come to think of it, I still am.

What a great photo!

I'm so glad you liked the book. I actually read an early draft of IAL several years ago which was much more faithful; I guess over the years it did indeed mutate as it made its way through what you so aptly call the Development Hell labyrinth (I like to say the term Development Hell is a misnomer as it implies there is such a thing as Development Heaven. There isn't.)

I'm ashamed to admit that I've never read His Dark Materials, but I've heard that the adaptation of The Golden Compass just butchers that story worse than, er, a butcher butchering something.

JM, yeah, they ARE great words :)

J, Ha ha, you're sweet. To steal from above, that's just me on a Friday night in. A little wine, a little silk, a little lotion and pampering and chockolate and candles...Loved it, very replenishing. Going out tonight now, boys town and sushi with an friend I haven't seen since Spain.

I think Development Heaven is indie filmmaking, once you have the money. When are you going to try it? I'm already ready to give birth again; seriously looking at Dead Mom's Club for March. Whattya think? I was going to whip out a low budget script, and then I thought, dur, why don't i do one of the scripts people already like and just rewrite it to be guerilla?
