The Manic Pixie Dream Girls

Soooo true. Though not as memorable a name as Magical Negro, which is perfect for film criticism and terrifying when the RNC uses it to define Obama.

Anyway, glad the AV Club called foul on MPDGs. You know, there'd be less complaining about these shallow characters if more than 1 in 10 films had female protagonists with stories the tertiary male characters revolved around...

Right? Oh, I bet you totally get offered those roles. I think part of why I loved your Friday Nights Lights stint was you were Down to Earth Alternative Rad Girl. Okay, also kind of in service to the man and his self-discovery, but NEVER manic or annoying!!! More a of a role model for girls. :)

Thanks for posting this Lis. Excellent insight into a terrible, terrible repackaging of the woman-as-accessory-to-idiot-male trope. It's like a "50's wife", perky, obedient, cute and waiting for a husband to tell her what to do. Enough already.

Love to you, Eric. Preach on.
