Self-Discovery

Have realized I do my best writing from 11pm-4am when the rest of the world is asleep.

Though this puts me in discord with the rest of the world and most writers (you chirpy bastards who start writing at 6am), it is apparently not unusual for us "sensitive" types who need the energy of the planet to be low-key. Met two other writers last night with the exact same pattern.

File this in the "I'm not as big of a freak as I thought" category.

This post also should answer the question "Why is Lis always in bed when I call?" And you thought I was avoiding you.

Oh I knew you were asleep... hence the "Good morning Viet Nam" wakeup call...

And I was up at 430 this morning...different Bat-time, different Bat-channel.

I think I told you about the experiment I did in college: One summer when I didn't have a job or much to do, I ignored the clock, went to bed when I wanted, and woke up when I wanted. (I think that was the same summer I went five days without food just for the hell of it.)

After a couple of weeks, I discovered that I was very comfortable going to bed around 3 or 4 a.m. and waking up around 9 or 10 a.m. Even though I only got 6 or 7 hours of sleep, I felt much more rested than I did when I slept 8 or 9 hours on a "normal" schedule. It was great.

Alas, classes, the working world, and family life have not accommodated my needs in the many years since. It's a compromise I'm willing to make. Anyway, I doubt I have the same metabolism anymore. Ah, but there are still nights when the muses of the dark stillness trill their siren song....

my 8-5 is the only thing keeping my hours normal. Enjoy it while you can.

My sleep patterns are more screwed up than a Gitmo detainee's. Total night writer.
